Laura Fernald Ekasetya, The Piet Oudolf Collection
Laura worked at Lurie Garden for 10 years first as Horticulturist, then as Director and Head Horticulturist. Her responsibilities included guiding Lurie Garden as it matures – maintaining the vision of its designers while leading it into a new climate era. While the garden she fostered for a decade is ecologically-responsible by design, Laura shifted the organization’s mindset from one of pure maintenance to one of constant improvement – challenging itself to maximize its usefulness to its wildlife and human community. She previously worked at Chicago Botanic Garden, tending to perennial plants growing in the research evaluation and plant breeding areas. Laura is an evangelist of the naturalistic garden movement. She speaks world-wide and wants to change change the way we think about gardens. Currently Laura works with The Piet Oudolf Collection.

Who is landscape architect Piet Oudolf
Piet Oudolf has lived and worked in Hummelo (Gelderland) since 1982 and is a well-known and internationally renowned Dutch landscape architect. He has a great and considerable reputation, especially in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Sweden. For example, he contributed to the design for the planting of the High Line Park in New York. An old above-ground railway line that has been transformed into a great city park. He also contributed to the planting plan for the Gardens of Remembrance in New York (The Battery). Gardens that commemorate the people who died during the attacks on September 11, 2001. Fortunately, we are also getting to know Piet Oudolf better in our own country. We can also enjoy beautifully designed gardens in the Netherlands, such as the Vlinderhof in Utrecht and the Singer Garden in Laren.

Natural gardens are Piet Oudolf's trademark. Groups of different plants, art and the four seasons are Piet Oudolf's main sources of inspiration. The 'Natural Garden' is his 'trademark'. Nature blooms all year round and this is always reflected in the gardens designed by Piet Oudolf. A garden must be worth living for four seasons. The combination of perennials and grasses are coordinated in such a way that they provide a display of colors from early spring until late autumn. But the plants and grasses are also breathtaking in winter. In addition to designing plating schemes, a number of books have also been published in collaboration with colleagues.
